Legal Practitioner Director
Jessica Winstone
From her first day at Brett Smith & Co in 2011, Jess has been an integral part of the firm’s growth and evolution. Beginning as a receptionist and progressing through client service and legal support roles, she has developed an in-depth understanding of every aspect of the practice.
​
Holding a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland and a Postgraduate Diploma in Practical Legal Training from The College of Law, Jess was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in July 2022 and became the proud owner and Legal Practitioner Director in November 2024.
​
Now leading the firm, Jess specialises in conveyancing and wills & estates. Her approach combines practical legal knowledge with strong management and communication skills, ensuring clients receive clear, effective advice and timely results.
​
Outside of work, Jess enjoys exploring new restaurants and catching up with friends over great food and conversation.

Senior Associate
Mickaela Brown
Passionate about helping clients navigate challenging times, Mickaela focuses her practice on family law, domestic violence, and criminal law. She joined Brett Smith & Co in 2020, returning as an Associate Solicitor in 2025 after a brief break, bringing with her a wealth of experience and renewed energy for client advocacy.

Mickaela holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Southern Queensland and a Postgraduate Diploma in Practical Legal Training from The College of Law. She was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in April 2020 and to the High Court of Australia later that same year.
​
Known for her empathy, clear communication, and strong advocacy, Mickaela has appeared across all Queensland Court jurisdictions and in the Federal Court, consistently striving for outcomes that balance fairness, practicality, and compassion.
​
When not at work, Mickaela loves spending time with her young family and sharing her love of baking.

Paralegal
Zoe Richards
Zoe has been part of Brett Smith & Co since 2016, progressing from receptionist to legal assistant and now to paralegal. Her years with the firm have given her a strong understanding of both the legal and practical aspects of the firm’s operations, making her a trusted and capable member of the team.

She focuses primarily on conveyancing, assisting Jess with all aspects of file management, from document preparation and lodgements through to settlement coordination. Zoe also provides support to Mickaela across a range of matters, contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the practice.
Known for her reliability, professionalism, and calm approach, Zoe ensures that clients receive attentive and well-organised service throughout their matters.

In her spare time, Zoe enjoys camping adventures with her husband and spending time with their dog.

Legal Assistant
Martina Kreischer
Martina joined Brett Smith & Co in January 2026 and provides essential administrative and legal support within the firm, with a primary focus on family and criminal law matters. Her role supports the smooth progression of files and contributes to the efficient day-to-day operation of the practice.

Working closely with Mickaela, Martina assists with document preparation, file management, court material, and client coordination. She plays an important role in ensuring matters are well organised and deadlines are met.
​
Martina is frequently the first point of contact for clients in Mickaela’s matters, helping guide them through procedural steps and maintaining clear, professional communication throughout their case. Known for her reliability and adaptability, she supports a consistent and client-focused service.

Outside the office, Martina enjoys staying active and outdoors, particularly through hiking and playing beach volleyball.

Receptionist
Tilly Morgan
As our Director of First Impressions, Tilly has been welcoming clients to Brett Smith & Co since February 2023. She is the friendly voice on the phone and the first face clients see when they visit the office, ensuring every interaction reflects the firm’s professional and approachable culture.

In addition to greeting clients, Tilly manages the firm’s daily administration, including appointment scheduling, correspondence, and office coordination. Her strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and positive attitude keep the office running smoothly and support the team in delivering efficient client service.
Tilly’s approachable manner and dependable nature make her an essential part of both the client experience and the firm’s day-to-day operations.

In her spare time, Tilly enjoys quality time with her partner and visiting the beach.
